- Use only user-serviceable HVAC filter tasks described by the equipment instructions.
- Prepare the home and alerts plan before time away.
Fall
- Record filter details and arrange qualified heating service when needed.
- Prepare outdoor water connections only with climate- and equipment-specific guidance.
- Note accessible doors, windows, emergency supplies, and any issue that needs help before winter.
Winter and after severe weather
- Follow local alerts and protect people first during outages, freezing weather, and storms.
- Check only from a safe location after weather; avoid roofs, floodwater, downed lines, and damaged electrical equipment.
- Save photos, dates, and service notes for the next season.

Use these boundaries:
- If your home has one: add a task only when that system or fixture exists.
- If this is owner-maintained: check with your HOA or building management before acting on shared or managed property.
- Use local alerts first: especially for heat, freezing weather, storms, wildfire smoke, and outages.
